Grief Counseling in Houston
Last reviewed: October 2026
Grief doesn't follow a schedule, and there's no right way to do it. But some losses get stuck: the death of a child, a sudden or traumatic death, or a loss that nobody around you seems to acknowledge. That's when talking to someone trained in grief can help.
Houston has both private therapists and free community support groups. Below are 9 options, in no particular order.
How we chose: independent practices, nonprofits and hospice or hospital programs in the Houston area whose own website has a dedicated grief page or program, and that look active. No paid placements. Details come from each provider's website as of October 2026.

What to look for in grief support
- Groups vs one-to-one. Groups help many people feel less alone. Individual counseling helps when grief is complicated by trauma, depression or family conflict.
- Look for loss-specific support. Child loss, pregnancy loss and suicide loss often have dedicated groups.
- For kids, find someone who works with children. Children grieve differently, often through play.
- There's no deadline. It's fine to seek support years after a loss.
