Black Therapists in Houston

Last reviewed: October 2026

For a lot of people, it matters to work with a therapist who understands their experience without needing it explained: racial stress, microaggressions at work, family expectations, faith, or simply being the only one in the room. Research and plenty of lived experience say that feeling understood helps therapy work.

Below are 8 Houston practices that describe themselves, in their own words, as Black-owned, as having Black therapists, or as offering culturally affirming care for Black clients. Listed in no particular order.

How we chose: practices in the Houston area whose own website says they are Black-owned, have Black therapists, or focus on culturally affirming care for Black clients, and that look active. We only include practices based on their own wording. No paid placements. Details come from each practice's website as of October 2026.

What to look for

  • Ask directly about fit. It's fine to ask a practice about a therapist's background and experience working with Black clients.
  • Cultural understanding plus clinical skill. You want both. Ask what methods they use too.
  • Check insurance early. Several practices here are in-network with major insurers.
  • Couples have options. Some practices specialize in Black and interracial couples.
