Couples and Marriage Counseling in Houston
Last reviewed: October 2026
Most couples wait too long before getting help. If the same arguments keep looping, you feel more like roommates than partners, or trust has been broken, couples counseling can help, and it works best when you start before things get really bad.
Two methods come up again and again: the Gottman Method, which focuses on how couples handle conflict and build friendship, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which focuses on the emotional bond and attachment between partners. Both have solid research behind them.
Below are 10 Houston practices, in no particular order, plus two low-cost options.
How we chose: independent practices in the Houston area whose own website has a dedicated couples or marriage counseling page, that describe their approach, and that look active. No paid placements. Details come from each practice's website as of October 2026.

What to look for in a couples therapist
- Ask about their couples training. Gottman and EFT both have formal training levels. Ask how far they've gone.
- Make sure couples work is a focus. Couples therapy is its own skill, not just individual therapy with two people.
- Ask about intensives. If weekly sessions are hard to schedule or you're in crisis, a weekend intensive may help.
- Talk about insurance. Many plans don't cover couples sessions unless there's a diagnosis. Ask up front.
